Been having problems with the Tekonsha brake controller staying connected for the last year or so. So after seeing a few other installs I decided on the Redarc Tow Pro Elite. I installed it along with the plug and play harness so I don't have to cut or splice any wires. And I also opted for the toyota switch panel they have so that I didn't have to drill any holes in the dash. The install was easy, and WOW, it works much better than the Tekonsha, even back when it did work well when I first installed it. The Redarc braking in the default "proportional" mode is much more smooth and predictable. Very happy with the switch.

For anyone thinking about installing one, I did a full step by step video of the installation procedure on my 2009 LX570. Should be very similar on any 2008-2021 Land Cruiser or LX570.

Thanks for the video. I put the same setup in my 2018. Super easy - took about 20 minutes. Works fantastic.

It's such a great unit. I hooked up the trailer early this morning to take it for a drive before traffic and WOW. It really is a much better setup than the Tekonsha. How smooth it engages and how predictable the braking feels is so much better. Have you run into anything you don't like with your setup?

no issues at all. I’ve towed several different trailers and it has been flawless. The gain is super easy to dial in.

That is great to hear. So far so good on mine as well. I only have two trailers, but even on our heavy one that is triple axle carrying our 30ft Cobalt it was flawless performance.

that location for the brain beneath the steering wheel, did you have any clashing with the tilt/telescoping feature of the steering wheel? i thought it looked very close. Curious since my girlfriend drives with the wheel all the way tilt down.

edit: great install video btw!

Nope, it still moved freely through the entire range of motion. By far the best brake controller I've ever had on a vehicle.
