Default Is there a 3rd gen buying guide?

My wife finally relented after sitting in an LX 570 and wants to get rid of her Acura MDX, which has always been an annoying vehicle to me. I mean, they had the "side seat black hole" in 2001 when we bought the first one, and a crappy sound system even though overall the quality was good, but 12 years later the 2012 ... STILL has the "side seat black hole" where keys and phones disappear forever. AND the sound system... they had a meeting and said "hey, you know that DVD Audio format that was pretty much dead on arrival? YEAH! Let's put that in!"

ANYWAY... As a long time LS driver, I think Lexus/Toyota are pretty much the only cars to own for daily driver action. BUT... I don't know anything about LX models.

Is there a post with "get this one because of this or that" like for example, when I wanted to get my LS430, it was pretty much a universal "get the '04-06" because it came with the 6 speed tranny, for example. Stuff like that. Any reason the 1st ot 2nd gen are more desirable?

NOTE... there will be ZERO off roading planned for this vehicle. Just a lot of city and highway driving. I think that despite the low MPG (oh yeah, the MDX gets about 17mpg ON THE HIGHWAY) it will be a big comfortable cruiser to go see the kids at college in Gainsville and Tallhassee.

Thanks in advance!

welcome from another newbie. I just picked up my 2014 lx two days ago. Fwiw, it has 89k miles and I paid roughly $39k for it, plus about $3.5k for a Lexus-backed 36 month warranty. I bought it non-CPO from a Lexus dealer. Here’s what I learned during my search:

-in my budget, which is 40k or less, you’re going to mostly see 2014 and older trucks. Most are priced pretty consistently between 37k and 39k. You’ll be looking at around 115k miles on average at that price range.
-the next tier up is the $50k and up 2015s and newer. Below is a true dog’s breakfast—some high mileage but nice trucks, and some real fright pigs.
-the best examples are going to be at Lexus and Toyota dealers. These don’t always advertise through CARFAX, so you should browse dealer sites.
-CarMax has the next tier down, plus a few in the upper price range. Same deal with carvana. Buy here pay here places have some true nightmares if you like that kind of action.
—I would focus on 2013 and up and buy the nicest truck you can afford. Avoid 3 owners—the 3rd owners seem to not be able to afford to keep these up as well as they deserve.

good luck and have fun!

mannye, Read the part about Land Cruisers, basically the same truck. It's definitely not "all about off-roading". Plenty of people there that have mall cruisers that have never seen a dirt road.

I've had more help with our LX from there than here, to put it mildly. Only thing that might be missing is time, maybe.

The CL forum is dead for the LX. Definitely go to Mid if you want answers.

I don’t own and LX or Landcruiser, but I frequent that site. Nice builds and they have an excellent car chat section that is hilarious. Not much moderator editing in there!!!
