My oldest daughter is now driving this vehicle (I had to put a water pump in it at 70K miles). My youngest daughter is driving a 2001 LX470 that I bought with about 90K miles on it. It's been very reliable and now has 160K miles on it. I have a 2003 Toyota Sequoia with 240K miles on it and it too has been very reliable. My 1994 Toyota Land Cruiser is still on the road (sold it to my Toyota Service Manager) - I did have to put about $3500 into it around 140K miles.

I did have a recall on my 2001 LX470 for a Throttle Body issue that Lexus covered. That would have been about $1700 out of pocket.

I'm a big Lexus/Toyota fan.
You're spending 2.5 CENTS per mile...chump change. Exactly why I think the odds are way in favor of the insurance companies, not the owner.

Yes, I also have my Toyota/Lexus extended warranties from him. His prices are good and I think that for this price, the warranty is worth it.

I spent $5700 to extend 50K/6yrs on a BMW 7er, and it paid for itself half way through already. Lexus is relatively cheap. But for my LX, no extended warranties bought. I might buy it if the 8 speed transmission becomes an issue.

I brought from toby river lexus and this is what I was quoted for.
6 year 70000 = $1215 (2 more years up to 70k)
7 year 75000 = $1865 (3 more years up to 75K)
7 year 100000 = $2345
8 year 100000 = $2685
9 year 100000 = $3140

All are Lexus Platinum warranties with a ZERO deductibles.
I brought the 6 years plan and my car's audio amp breaks at the end of 2020 right after the oem warranty ends, the extended warranty kicks in and the cost of warranty pays for itself

Has anyone ever actually had to use an optional extended warranty they bought for the LX?

Rarely. Why would Lexus offer the warranty if everybody needed it because of crappy reliability??

Yes, I had used the "platinum Lexus extended warranty" after the initial factory warranty expired.

It was for some "parasitic electrical drainage" where if I park the LX570 for more than 2 weeks and not drive it, the battery would die and after a jump....then all ok. Both times there were no charges with zero deductible at the selling Lexus dealership.

Initially got it looked at TWICE at the ORIGINAL SELLING LEXUS DEALERSHIP (sold me the LX570 AND THE LEXUS PLATINUM WARRANTY). ZERO deductible both times, but needed to give them my credit card IN CASE IT TURNED OUT NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. Both times I was told all ok.

But then the same problem kept happening where after 2 weeks or longer of parking and not driven.....the battery goes dead.

Then I took the LX570 to a different Lexus dealership, THE LARGEST LEXUS DEALERSHIP on the west coast where I had done businesses with for more than 20 years.Their MASTER tech found the problem AFTER extensive tracing of where the parasitic draining was. All fixed and problem free. But had to pay the $100 deductible since the work was not done at the "selling dealership" where the extended warranty was sold. I still had to put up my credit card up in case the problem was not covered by the extended warranty. This last visit took over a week for them to trace where the problem was.

I have no idea how much the repair was. The Lexus dealership had to replace some computer board for the center console fridge bc that was somehow draining the battery down. Plus the hours and hours needed to diagnose and trace the parasitic electrical drainage......

Not an LX owner. But multiple RX and one ISF.

Ive always purchased the platinum extended just before my original warranty expires. I have gotten my all of my money back on each purchase. And more on my ISF.

Multiple smaller issues on my RXs. XM radio died, Pillar seat belt, rear hatch motor. Oils and radiator leaks.

My ISF had a few smaller issues. And it had the dash completely removed trying to fix a problem with the A/C. Cold air in the back. only Warm air in the front. 3 weeks in the shop replacing every component.

I have gotten all of my Lexus warranties from Jerry Johnson. Around 1/3 of the cost of a Lexus Dealership.

The piece of mind is well worth the cost.

Nothing better than the Customer Service rep describe to me all of the problems they found on my car during regular servicing. And I would say Great! Have at it! Call me when it’s done.

The Land Cruiser and LX have better reliability than the RX and ISF and far longer history as THE vehicles with a designed lifespan of 25 years and 250K miles following maintenance by the book.

Once again, Lexus would not offer a warranty if they did not make money from the vehicles with no issues...exactly the same thought as homeowner's insurance and general insurance you need to drive the car.

Cheap piece of mind is what a Extended warranty is. My current RX is CPO. A little over 50k miles the engine had to be removed for oil and water leaks.

If you can get a 5 year Platinum Warranty from Jerry Johnson for 1000 dollars. That's about 75 cents a day. Well worth the cost.
