I ran into a thread on h8mud regarding the less than stellar performance of the cup holders. One of the members there decided to 3D print some.
If you are looking for a "fix" for your cup holders, check out his site. He has both inserts and full replacements.
I am not affiliated. Just ordered one today for my new to me LX.
( I think the LX options only go to 2015 for now. He will likely do one for the newer ones if you ask)
