Michelin tire question
looking to get some Michelin Ltx in 275-55-20 for my 09, first will this size be ok, and second would you guys suggest LTX2 M/S or LTX defender? Keep in mind I have Blizzaks for winter already. Stock rims. Tia

They are great on the highway. And they will wear forever got over 80k miles out of my last set and they still had plenty of thread left when I sold that LC

You think they're worth $50/tire more than the Michelin Defenders? I would worry about noise with such an aggressive tread too. What psi do you run at?

It's a "D" rated truck tire. Weighs around 51 lbs, run at 43 psi. I don't notice any road noise in my LX570, but they are very well sound dampened, it you drove a LC with less sound dampening you might here them. Your driving a 6000 lb Truck/SUV that the manufacture put low rolling resistance passenger tire's on, to lower their EPA mpg rating. I bought 285/55/20's because they have a 10.1 inch tread width, they cost about $1600 installed for 4 tire's taxes and lifetime rotate a balance at discount tire. If you bought 275/55/20 the tread is about 9" wide and they are about the same price as the Michelin Defenders. Your Defenders weigh about 29-30lbs and will do a great job and wear well. Just not the safety advantage that I was looking for.

). As I posted as recently as yesterday, a 3-ton truck fully loaded and / or towing needs an LT, not a P-rated tire. As was posted, a passenger car tire costs 'Yota less money and probably gives them a tenth of a mpg for the EPA rating.
So you guys are both suggesting these instead of the Michelin now lol? Ok I will look at the price on those locally here tomorrow. One of the main reasons I bought this vehicle after having a GS that was slammed with all the trimmings for a while is ride quality and sound proofing. Don’t want to give any of that up just for the looks of a tire.

I have the AT2’s on my LX and I love them. Great on the highway, noise isn’t noticable, and I hauled my trailer to the Arctic Circle and back. If I was to replace them I would get the same. I can’t think of anything wrong with them and when I am towing the 10 ply puts my mind at ease. I had them on the LC too.

That size is .7" taller than factory size. You will be okay (they won't rub) so long as you aren't running wheel spacers.
Better be certain that your idea of quiet is the same as other people's idea of quiet. The Michelin LTX M/S2 and Defender LTX MS will both be very quiet, probably just a tiny bit quieter than the original Latitude Tour HPs. A more aggressively-treaded A/T tire like the BFG won't be as quiet, but depending upon your hearing it might not be a problem for you, or you might not even notice the difference. But many people (myself included) would. Specs say the BFGs weigh 14 pounds per tire more than the Michelins, which will hinder acceleration a little bit and also impact the steering a bit (both due to the difference in the polar moment of inertia with the heavier tires).
