Can't see them getting cheap on the module. The sensor would cost less than 10 bucks. The outer protective lens likely cost more than the sensor so cutting the pixels on it to save money would not make sense to me.

 

The camera in our 08 LX570 continues to annoy me, the quality in my 05 GS430 and in a close friends 2013 corolla are actually much better than out lx570 one. i wonder if they can be changed and how much better is the replacement.

Only on the base model, the Luxury model is about the same price as it was before. Mine is fully loaded with all options except for the rear seat entertainment center because we do not have kids so we do not need it. They stripped a lot of standard options out to get a lower price for the base model trying to come in at about $50,000 to increase sales which it did. The base model is very stripped down but its purpose is to entice buyers shopping say a Ford Explorer fully loaded but may want to get into a Lexus for about the same price if they overlook most options.

 

Have you looked at the camera closely. Maybe is is fogged from moisture and lens scratched badly and it might need replacing.

 

I have noticed that rain really affects the image quality, I'm going to RainX the front, mirror, and rear lenses.

 

I had '16 RX450h for a few days as a loaner. So I did a comparision of their backup cameras at night.
This is RX450h (similar what I get with my LS460. Venza or even Sequoia):


And this is '16 LX570. What's wrong with the camera? It's really bad, almost unusable.

 

If it is that bad Lexus should replace. My 2016 LX rear camera is as good if not better than my 2014 LX and 2016 RX.

Have you looked at it closely to see if it is scratched or has moisture inside?

 

I don't know is the LX rear camera is bad design or he got the defective one or not, but i can tell you guys my 14" GX camera is more clear and show the road better at night then my 16" LX, maybe it due to high mount camera on the LX that why is didn't give enough light or something?

 

Has anyone ever tried to swap it?

 

O.K., thank you, maybe my camera is defective. I hope that my dealership would agree to do a quick comparision to a new LX. We will see.
