Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum. We bought a brand new 2016 lx570 about a month ago and it has less than 600 miles on it. We dropped it off at the dealer for a puncture and after they machine washed it, we discovered scratches all over the exterior. What should I do?

These scratches may or may not be removable thru' buffing them out. If any paint is used to rectify them, it will be used against you when you trade it in. Paint means resale value goes down like a ton of bricks. Don't let the dealer get out of this scot free. Have a serious talk re: the loss of value due to their negligence.

I talked to the manager and he said he would give us a DA detailing. We are still in the process of negotiating compensation.

I had a similar issue with a 2014 GX460, it had black paint and they washed it and put surface scratches throughout the paint. They had the car for a week trying to correct the surface scratches and finally we agreed that I would trade it in.

Dark cars are swirl mark magnets..especially when driven through automatic car washes. Those look like a good paint correction would remove those scratches. I would suggest that you get opt-coat applied to the car if you are going to use automatic car washes. It is expensive but worth it in the long run. I would insist on the dealer paying for a detailer of your choice to remove the scratches...the mobile detailer the dealer uses is probably not a good choice.

Never ever allow a dealer to put your car through an automatic carwash while in service. Before a service appointment, make it clear to your service advisor that you do not wish your car washed. To be sure, write a note and attach it to the windshield

It can be buffed out no problem. No loss of value. Don't let them try and fix it though, make them give you funds for a professional.

They can do a lot of trickery with polishing compounds (oils) that can fill in the scratches until you wash the car again.... You want them to really fix the scratches not just hide them. I would go on Yelp and find a highly rated detailer and ask the Dealership to pay for the paint correction. It could be 300-500 for a good job.

Lexus dealerships should know better than to put an Obsidian black car through an automatic wash.

You also need the proper tools and you need to know what you're doing. Ultra Cut Compound is very aggressive...

Once it is fixed up, I recommend you to put on Expel clear bra. I did mine right after I got it. It is very expensive but there are cheaper ones also out there such as Invisible Mask and 3 M.
