real world driving difference between 04 and 06?
Hi -
In the market for an LX - I know most of the major differences between these years but the one thing I don't have a good handle on is whether the extra hp/tq of the 2006 makes that much of a difference in everyday driving - can anyone who has experienced both give me your thoughts?
Thanks

Objectively - none
Subjectively - my 98 had smoother, quieter, nicer running engine (the difference in power is not detectable without scientific lab gear), the 2006 has better steering (more direct and responsive, variable with speed). 2006 5-speed gearbox make the engine run at more comfortable RPMs at high-speed. Not a big difference but nice.

That's interesting, I'd assumed that difference in power felt would be much bigger. When going from my old 99 lx470 to her 07 gx470 the engine feels so much more responsive (even accounting for how much lighter that vehicle is) - and it sounds more impressive too :-)

GX470 is smaller and lighter on one hand, but the "responsiveness" is due to the gas pedal map programming/gearing and is pretty subjective. Try measuring 0-100 acceleration time, you will be surprised that "so much more" will be responsible for ~10% improvement despite the difference in HP and lighter weight. Technically speaking 10% is actually a lot, practically speaking.... pretty much nothing.

Well, there's another difference, I think I'm afraid to take mine to 100 LOL
Your definitely right about the response curve differences on the acc pedals though sometimes I jerk the smaller truck around like I'm learning to drive stick again.
