Greetings all - need some help with intermittent AC shutdown. Happens at idle and highway speeds - I noted that compresssor stops turning when this happens. When it cools, it cools very well. 115K miles on original engine/compressor.
Any ideas as to what I should be looking for first? If checking/adding refrigerant is an option, any details would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
The first thing I'd check is refrigerant level. That said, I don't have a 6-cylinder truck, but wife mentioned the same "not as cool as it used to be" yesterday afternoon...that truck has ~190K and maintenance records from delivery date forward show no a/c service...not bad for almost 20 years old. Shop manual for the v8 shows checking refrigerant level is the same as any other vehicle...connect the gauges to high and low fittings under the hood and read the gauges...nothing magic and no special tools required.
Any decent mechanic can take care of that in 10 minutes or so...definitely not an issue that would cause me to go to a Lexus or Toyota dealer. There should be a sight glass on drivers side visible with the hood open. With engine running and a/c on, you should see bubbles in the sight glass.
hth and report back when fixed, and you are welcome.
