Default Battery replacement preventive

It's time to just replace my car battery in my 04 LX470
thw battery is a OEM battery been in there since Dec. 09 so about 7 years, it still works great but I figure better now then be stranded on day. Questions I like to ask

1. Do I need to reset anything after replacement?
2. Anything I need to look out or do?
3. How many of you do battery change as preventive or just wait until you hear weak start?

Just replaced my original Panasonic battery. It was at 4 years old and only holding 12.35 volts, even after fully charged. Everything worked fine but I replaced it as a matter of maintenance as it should really be holding closer to 13 volts.

Make sure to use dielectric grease on the terminals to keep them from corroding. It works great.

Every fall I take my LX470 and 80 Series Land Cruiser to at least two, sometimes three auto parts stores, and have them test the battery's, alternator, and starter to make sure they are functional going into the winter. The tests are free. I would take yours and have it testsed. Replaced if needed.

Doc, hope you had a great Christmas and New Year.

I use cheapo lighter plug with 2 USB sockets and a built-in digital volt meter. I replaced the battery in the summer of 2014 based on a 12.5 volt reading...noticed a bit of slow cranking same as you'd see on any other vehicle. Nothing needs resetting after you install the battery, assuming time between disconnecting the old one and reconnecting the new isn't more than 5-10 minutes. Dielectric grease or battery terminal spray is great, once the new battery is connected. If you decide to replace the battery, it's a "Group 27". Iirc, I dropped ~ $100 at Auto Zone and diy'd the installation.

Thanks for all the input, Steve thanks for the reminder on the corrosion gel, was able to change out the battery, went to Costco but they don't carry a 27F so drove to Sams club and pick up an energizer brand, I had the tech do a battery test and base on date of my old battery the readout said replacement but the voltage was good. I'm sure it can last a little longer but just don't want to worry about it when you have kids in the car in the snow up in Lake Tahoe

so after replacement only the VGRS light came on but quickly goes away once you drive it for a mile or 2 after the system reset, didn't loose any of the radio station that were preset. Hopefully this energizer made by Johnson control will last at least 5 years.

Peace of mind is definitely a good thing! Glad to hear you got it resolved.
