2002 LX 470-To Total or to Repair?
Hi,
I have had a 2002 Vapor Blue LX 470 with gray leather interior, Mark Levinson, Navigation since December 2002 (I'm the second owner-bought from local Lexus dealer with 14,987 miles on it at 1 year old). We have loved this car for years. It's been very dependable and great on steep gravel mountain driveway. It is now 12 1/2 years old with around 156,000 miles on it. I recently bought a 2013 RX 450h and my 19 year old college student daughter is now the primary driver. On her way back from school in South Carolina last week she was run off the interstate and collided with the guard cabling. No injuries thankfully! There is no structural damage and the car is fixable for $9,100.00. The insurance company is giving me the choice on whether I want to have it repaired or totaled. It's a great car and can be safely and successfully repaired. If the car is totaled out they will give me $18,150.00 (17,450 for the car plus some taxes and title fees and less the 500 deductible). I'm very torn. We love the car but it has some age and mileage on it and only has front airbags and gets 12-13 miles per gallon or so. I know these are built really well and we have maintained it perfectly always at the Lexus dealer, so it could go a lot more miles. It's a tank which I like, but I feel the offer is pretty strong and wondering what to do. I have to give insurance company an answer soon. Wondering if I should take the money and maybe put her in something a few years newer with more airbags and a little better mileage (still safe though). Any advice or input would be appreciated.

Just bought a gray on gray 2003 LX470. So far I have:
- Added BT35 bluetooth kit for handsfree calling
- Speck iPod kit for playing iPhone music
- Boyo backup camera integrated with factory headunit
- Headlight bulbs updated to XenonDepot HIDs
- Fixed the blown out subwoofer
- Rejuvenated the leather with Leatherique oil and cleaner (great products)
I'm now working on the RSE (rear seat entertainment) DVD player. Need to find a replacement as the one I have seems broken. Thank you for all the great information on this site!

Bought a '99 LX 470 back in May of this year. River Rock Green Mica with 240K miles. Everything but the telescoping function of the steering wheel works. It's in unbelievable condition and drives like its got 40K miles. I couldn't be happier.

New to Club Lexus
Hello, I am new here. I just purchased a 2000 LX470 with 93,000 miles on it. Great condition inside. Only defect is that it has the dreaded 2000 smoke topaz paint defect. Parts of the roof area look like fading here and there. In fact it is hardly noticable and allows me to actually take it off-road without worrying about paint chips and scratches. I look at it that it already has "battle scars" and makes it more "off road".
Since I purchased it, I have put on an ARB Sahara Bumper and the Gobi Stealth Roof Rack. New Cooper tires, one size larger than stock and have replaced all fluids on the rig. The timing belt was replaced at 70,000 miles by Lexus dealership(DFW area)
Anyway, I have had Jeeps in the past and enjoy off-roading as much as possible. Have had other Lexus in the past, ie. Es300 and have always been pleased with the build quality.
Looking forward in being a CL member.
Mark

New Owner.
2007 LX470 85k
Silver/Gray int.
With Nav and Mark Levinson/
options: Everything except night vision and rocket launchers.
Being a former 100 Series owner and Land Cruiser fanatic I had been looking for the last year of the 100 series with low miles and found my Lexus. So when I found this one I jumped on it. So far I am liking it a lot. The interior is a bit ridiculous with all the wood trim but I'll get over that soon enough.

Planing to buy a LX470
Hi!
I am currently driving a Toyota FJ80 and thinking of upgrading to a LX470. I would appreciate if you could give me some pointers on things to look for when buying a used LX470 with close to 100k miles.
Thanks,
Harsha.
