So, I was out in my new LX 470 I just bought and was listening to the radio for about 1 hour when the car died. It wasn't running just the radio off the battery. I thought it was weird so I went in and started to charge my portable 12V Charger and came back 30 minutes and it started without using a jump. I turned it off for 5 minutes and it started again.

Is this common? Do I have a battery problem or a starter problem? Why would the car go dead if the motor wasn't running. It seems maybe it's the batery. But I find it odd, that left alone for 30 minutes, it started again.

Any comments?

 

It may be normal. If the engin is off and the key is in the accessory mode or off, I believe the car will turn off all accessories (radio, nav screen, interior lights, etc.) after a presecribed time to prevent battery rundown.

 

if it's a feature, it should be detailed in the owners manual. you could check with the dealership as well. doesn't necessarily sound like a problem.
