hello, i am a new member to this forum and I am excited to finnally have something to post! I have been reading and obsearving for 2 years now, ever since I purchased my 1992 Ls400. I left it stock untill recently, when I added a set of K-sport coilovers, and a set of XXR gold wheels. 18x8.5 front, and 18x9.5 rear with 35mm offset all around. I want to drop it more but the fenders will need to be rolled. The tires are Bridgestone Potenza RE050A runflats. I am a BMW technician and I have stocked up on these tires. They come off lease cars that are certified and get new tires. Fronts are 225/40 R18 and rear 255/35 R18. I will be posting more as I add new things to the car, I was just excited about showing you guys my setup. Thanks and I hope you enjoy!

Welcome. Clean 92 ya got there. Wheels are not my taste, but don't look bad on it. You will find alot of very helpful info as well as members here. You should also drop down into the NELOC section and introduce yourself.

 

clean car but wheels kinda (in fitment terms, looks alright)

needs better fitment if you're going for the VIP look

 

i can appreciate others opinions. I really like the wheels! Once I lower it more, the fitment will be right on. The wheels line right up flush with the fender. I have been following the VIP trend for years now and I combine the VIP style with a little of my own styles. I searched forever for used "VIP" wheels and most of them really arent my style, although I can appreciate the look.

I was wondering if anybody has any suggestions on the dampening adjustments on coilovers for these cars? I have been playing around with them and experimenting with how different settings feel. Anybody have any opinions on whether to run a stiffer front or rear?

 

run a stiffer front, about 3-5 clicks stiffer than the rear.

sorry but you're not flush. the fronts MIGHT be getting there but not yet. when you go lower your wheels will sink in farther, making you even further from flush.

 

Contrary to what everyone is saying, I very much like your wheel & tire combo. The only thing I would change if it were my LS is the wheel color; I would go all silver. I really like your car's stance too Welcome to CL bro!

 

Looks good man, the body and paint look to be in great shape.

 

The car looks like its in great shape. The wheels aren't my style but its not my car. You'll most likely need spacers (~10mm) to get flush once it's lower.

so true...i dropped my car another .25 inch and now it looks like i need a 5 mil spacer in the rear .

 

I personally vouched against 5 spoked rims on the 1LS
But it looks good; loving the gold on black. and it also matches your pinstripe

thanks for all the input. The point of the gold wheels was to bring back the old school style when this car was new. Remember the black luxury cars (bmw, lexus, mercedes) with gold BBS wheels? I like the 5 spoke design and when I found these I had to jump on them, plus I already had over $1500 in tires! for free! I have been a BMW auto tech for 5 years and there are some percs of the job!

The runflats ride surprisingly well, a little rough over bumps but not bad at all. With the coilovers, it definatly lost its stock feel, but i gained a huge performance advantage while still maintaining a decent comfort level.

So whats the deal with the spacers? I dont really like the idea, anybody have experience with them, do they cause any unwanted ride qualities?
As the car sits now, the wheels are pretty damn close to being flush, although I do see how lowering it will push the camber more negative. I definatly dont want the wheels to poke out at all. I just want flush or a little set in. Most of the VIP wheels with crazy offsets are made for widebody cars, not to throw on stock cars.

spacers don't effect ride quality really at all, in your case you would be using them to give you a better fitment in the rear. are your fenders rolled/shaved? you'll need the clearance once you get close to having a good fitment.
