You all know about the poor brake setup on the 1990 - 1992 LS since they are so small. I was wondering if it is possible to swap out the rotors and calipers by ordering rotors and calipers for the 1993 to 1994 model? It seems as though only the sizes are different? Has anyone else done this before?

 

why do that? THe brakes on the UCF11 isnt that much better than the UCF10.

if you want to do a BBK for cheap your best bets are either a Supra TT kit (New ~900 Used ~600) or a UCF20/21 kit (LS400 95-00) (New ~unknown Used ~500)

Both the Supra TT (mkiv) and the 95-00 LS400 (UCF20/21) has a big 4-piston front caliper setup, with the major difference being in the rotor size and the way the caliper looks

Hi Mate , it's just a matter of fitting 95 to 2000 model calipers and rotors , you go from 275 mm diameter rotors and two piston steel sliding calipers to 315 mm rotors and 315 mm alloy four piston calipers .
It is a straight bolt on job including brake lines , but while you are at it fit new slotted rotors and a set of S/S brake lines .
I can't quite understand going for Supra TT calipers due to the cost , when you can get remanufactured LS400 calipers for bugger all .
I can't say for sure as I haven't held the Supra calipers and LS400 ones in my hand at the same time , but there can't be that much difference between Supra alloy 4 piston calipers that bolt on to LS400 alloy 4 piston calipers that bolt on !!
I myself will be importing a set of those remanufactured calipers very shortly , will get my slotted rotors from DBA here in Aus .

 

Thanks Rich. Yeah, a set of Gen2 LS400 brakes is almost just as good as the Supra TT ones. Over on Supraforums, many of the non-turbo guys upgrade to LS400 brakes because they are nearly identical in size and much cheaper. Its good to know that the upgraded LS brakes are an "easy" swap for the LS' with crappy brakes. Thanks!

 

Just be aware that you need the wheels to clear !!
Also the upgrade to the 4 spot calipers was Oct 94 here in Aus .

 

yea, with any BBK on the first gen you WILL NEED new wheels.

good cheap choice is the OEM wheels from an LS 95+

how about the TOYOTA CElSIOR calipers? are they biger then the USDM ones or the same? Just curious cause I'm in JP and would like to take some with me if that was the case. thanks for the great info guys.
