Default Biggest concern with Ls500

i love this website and reading the forums for our cars. Huge Lexus enthusiast as a lot of members are.

what's really concerning me is the minimal posts on the new ls500

there have been numerous people that have bought the car this year, and the chatter for this model is alarmingly low

even people that have bought the car in the month or two don't take the time to share exciting reviews or updates with the love of the car.

i remember when the ls430 came out around 2001 the chatter was crazy.

seems like a sign to me that maybe Lexus missed their mark with this one

Well I will have a review after I have driven it for more than 300 miles for a good review.

Same here. Lexus knocked another one out of the ball park.

Driven it for 1600 miles. All modes, hard launch and fwy cruises. Best Lexus of all time. Only issue I have with this my F-Sport LS 500 is that I wish Lexus would offer a DCT or manual options.

I am enjoying my LS 500 more and more as I drive it. Put about 5000 miles on it so far.

Thank you, I will update my experiences as I go along. When I first got the car though, I did wish it would go more in the direction of the Genesis / LS 430 but the car does grow on you.

Coming from an S8, the power is lacking, but the trade off in luxury and reliability is a no brainer. And it is true that my LS is no slouch.

How does the cabin noise levels of an Audi compare with a Lexus? I sat in a friend's Audi before once and found it pretty quiet as well.

Comparing with the 2019 Audi A8 vs the 2018/2019 Lexus LS500, some of you may recall that I tested this extensively using a decimeter and controlled for as many variables as possible.

The 4LS was quieter than the S class and 2019 Audi A8. Both the S and A8 measured exactly the same on my decimeter.

The 5LS was 3db louder, which is significant because sound is logarithmic. The 5LS was exactly the same, noise wise, as the Genesis G90. The main culprit for noise on the LS is the RFT. The 19" LS500 that I drove was 2db quieter than the 20" LS500, and both had RFTs.

I would presume exchanging the RFTs altogether for regular tires on the LS500 would help get it closer to the noise levels of the S/A8, but there's no place to put a spare then and I am not able to report whether or not that would bring things in line with the S/A8 as that was not a test scenario I could test for.

interestingly, I was watching the following Chinese show that did a sound test between LS500, the 7 series and the S Class and found the LS to be the quietest. I guess the spec of the vehicles do matter.

here is a link to the video

Interestingly enough I was most baffled by the sound levels of various W222s I was in when I was in Asia/Europe. In fact, I was baffled by how noisy they were, and because all of the W222s I took were limousines, they were not "new" cars and the main culprit that I located was that the 222s I was in had cheap aftermarket tires.

I have absolutely no idea if the video you posted had that, because they don't specify anything other than tire pressures and noise. Car and Driver has something called their "instrumented" tests in which you can download a PDF of precisely their test conditions, the tire size, the tire brand/model etc. It's much more scientific.

I have long abandoned looking at tests like the ones you posted because it leaves out too many variables which I cannot dig into. Interesting though! That's why I have resorted to testing out brand new cars on the same road, at the same time, speed, weather condition. etc. Suffice it to say, as I have stated upthread, getting rid of the RFTs in the 5LS would go a long way, I think, at reducing noise, because the main culprit of noise for the 5LS is tire noise. Vehicles like the 2019 A8 come standard with acoustic tires (tires lined with felt inside), and it's remarkable that there's literally no tire noise that can be heard within the cabin.

That said in my testing, a W222 with 20" tires/rims with RFTs was quieter than a 5LS on 19" RFTs, (and of course 20" RFTs) <--all cars in question/tires used were OEM and were brand new, although the 4LS destroys all other test vehicles.
