Default LS 500 Hands Free Trunk (Solved)

Has anyone managed to get their hands free trunk (kick to open) to work? I've tried and it works probably once every 10 times. The delivery specialist told me it has to be a "quick kick," but I've been getting mostly misses...

Solved it with the help of john341 below: The key is to stand further back from the car and not be touching the bumper. There is a 1-2 second delay before it activates, and if you repeat the motion, it will not work.

You have to kick the back of the car to open the trunk? How is this good? My high school locker worked that way.

I suppose it can be useful when our hands are full with groceries. It's not literally kicking the back of the car but underneath the rear bumper (putting a foot under the rear bumper).

Have you tried standing back couple of inches from the trunk and waiving you foot perpendicular to the manual switch by the license plate. Also don't touch the bumper when waiving you foot. More info on Pg 106 of the manual. If it not working properly, I believe the dealer can increase the sensitivity of it. And congratulation on the car. I finally saw the new LS coming down a ramp in Texas sun, and absolutely admired this car; its low and expansive and has a really good presence in the sea of cars during rush hour. The color of the car was gold, terrific looking paint job.

Thanks John! Maybe that could explain why. I have been trying it in my garage, standing very close to the car.

You don’t have to. You can wave your foot under the bumper and the trunk will open if your hands are full.

Finally solved the mystery today: The key is to stand further back from the car and not be touching the bumper. There is a 1-2 second delay before it activates, and if you repeat the motion, it will not work.

My boss and I did a track day a few months ago with the LS500 and LC500 and this was actually one of the topics they covered. The trainer said it best when he said to stand back as if you have two arms of groceries and then use your foot to waive under the bumper. We all tried it and it worked 100% of the time.

When you say wave, do you mean a left to right (sideways) motion or is it a kicking straight-and-back motion?
