Who is buying the new LS?

I checked the car yesterday on dealer lot, it is very beautiful in and out. I did not drive it as the dealer closes on Sunday, but the price was $104k which is a lot despite the car is fully decked. I checked their inventory and they have another one at $103k, too much in my book. The interesting thing I found a 2015 Mercedes S Class AMG with 22,000 miles for $80k and I am seriously considering it now.

Lexus Champion
Lexus sold 1,008 LS models in March, up from 370 in March of last year, and up 72.5% for the year so far.

It’s apparent people somewhere in the U.S. are buying the new LS500.
I checked to see how the competition did
7 series 823
A8 135
G90 337
I really like the F Sport model LS500.

So LS #2 in the segment. That’s right where they wanted to be.

The LCs in my dealership aren't moving but LS are nearly gone within a week every time. Looks like people like them enough. Some of the rendering for the new ES makes them look similar to the LS. I wonder if ES sales in the future will also cannibalize LS number.

My guess is that the new LS is attracting buyers who previously owned other makes. If you come from the 4LS, it is easy to see and point out many apparent shortcomings: less leg / headroom, lack of V8 etc. But when the 5LS is assessed on its own without comparing it to the outgoing LS, it is really a nice car. I am liking mine more and more. The initial engine roughness / noise has gone away and it is a very enjoyable drive.

I agree the looks are polarizing! The interior is an absolute joy to be in. It looks futuristic. And gas mileage for me so far has been excellent: 27 mpg for a car of this size is very commendable.
