Your doing an engine swap on a 5th gen LS500 and the only question you have is "what's the best soap to use"? So many questions... I've found, for really junked up stuff I'll mix car wash soap with water, then get a few plastic brushes and soak the oil area and scrub. Scrub and rinse until clean. Old tooth brushes work well too.

Still very pleased with mine as I rack up the miles.
Too many electrical connections and stuff I can not even identify under the engine cover. As long as there are no oil leaks on my garage floor I’m happy.
Our ‘02 LS had valve cover gaskets replaced 10 years ago. It’s still pretty clean and doesn’t leak.
