Yea that's gen5. So, no need for nav update kit and usb key. See if he's got nav disc reader in the glove box.

 

I did some more searching. Older sites that used to sell updates are now defunct. Things change with time. It seems that USA laws are cracking down. Several members said that dealerships occasionally offer update "specials". Get on their mailing list, especially around Christmas time. If one travels a lot and/or uses points of interest feature, an update may be worthwhile.

 

Just did more digging and found out that some late 08's got a weird Gen. It may in fact require a dealer procedure if there's no disc receptacle in the glove box.

 

My 2010 LS 460L requires the dealer to install any updates. The last time Lexus offered a special on the update was 2015 which gave me version 14.1.
