Question about steering and suspension
Ok guys I’m trying to narrow down what’s causing a clunking sound which is proving difficult so if you could answer a few questions that would be great
when you turn the steering wheel, which suspension parts turn or move in a way that if the wheel is turned too much it might cause something to break..
will that happen to say the strut mount for example?
steering end links ? Or which arms etc
also what would cause me to hear springs squeaking and struts clunking if they are in good condition? I.e been tested on a automated machine stand etc could it be the struts is not torqued down correctly or ?

In my case, I had a clunking sound on freshly installed control arms due to bushings failure. I tracked it back to the front lower rearward arms (AWD) bushings. I did not relax the bushings properly and it caused brand new arms to fail in a few thousand miles causing the clunking noise whenever I would go over a bump while turning.
When you make a turn, all ball joints being used in addition to tie rods. Unlike some cars, struts do not actually turn in LS460.
I would definitely double check if struts were assembled properly. Usually springs should be aligned in a particular way during assembly. Maybe try to re-create the noise with a car jack while turning the wheels.
