I had replaced the front pads and rotors on my LS460 with factory parts. I had ordered the shim kit which I did not use as the shims appeared to be in good condition. I cleaned the pins and wire brushed the calipers where the pads would have a friction point. I also lubed the pins and the backs of the pads. The sound seems to be rotational in origin and occurs only when I depress the brake and is only coming from the drivers side. I do not believe that its the brake actuator. Any input would be appreciated.

 

There are also wire springs attached to pads to reduce rattle. Do you have those? When you installed the pads, did they slide easily into the calipers?

 

Yes the springs are in place. I do remember the Pads where a bit tight sliding.

 

Do you know if the pads should be snug or fit loosely when in the caliber? I plan on disassembling and replacing the shims and putting a new spring set. I can also lightly file down the contact points on the sides of the pads if needed.

 

The wire springs were worn on mine. I was able to reach in, with wheel on, and wiggle the brake pad. I think the springs can accidentally be installed on the top vs the bottom or vise versa. I don't recall which is correct.

 

After cleaning front calipers on my car from old grease, dirt and rust, pads went into in the calipers easily with piston completely depressed. I re-used old springs. I use 3M silicon for my brakes.
