Default 2009-2012 AWD transmission mounts - when to replace?

One of the members posted that failing transmission mounts can cause rear shaft misalignment, I assume, it applies to the front shaft as well (AWD). Such misalignment can cause vibrations in certain conditions. My question is who had the mounts replaced can provide feedback about before after replacement? Did anything change? Was it obvious that the mounts need replacement based on visual inspection? Thanks!

My '10 LS has always been a southern vehicle, and the weather doesn't vary much here. I just replaced my trans mount at ~135k miles when my passengers sitting in the backseat told me they could feel the car under their feet. When visually comparing it to the new mount, it look compressed and shorter by half an inch or more. I'd imagine being up north and being exposed to actual seasons of varying temps, the motor/trans mounts would go bad quicker than in my area of the country. My vibrations went away (although I also did my motor mounts) and shifting became smoother. I am RWD. If the front mount is anywhere near as easy to remove as the rear, it may be worth it to remove it to get a better look at it. Some have reported that the mounts have fallen apart in their hands when doing so.

My mounts look fine - no cracking or any kind of damage. But the car is over 10 years old and has over 169k miles on it. I get some vibration from time to time coming from what, it seems, the middle of the car.

I am going to a local dealer tomorrow to pick up rear rotors, I thought, I should get the mounts as well. On AWD, the transmission mounts replacement seems to be straight forward. I had to remove the cross member when I replaced the transmission strainer. Should have done the mount as well...

Yeah, mine looked fine, too. There was no cracking and all components seems firm with no wobbles when in my hand. When I put the old mount next to the new mount, however, the new one was visibly taller. That was the only difference that I could tell between the two.
