Default Air strut leak

my 07 ls460 L, with 170k has sunk on one side, front left, only code was c1761 which is for: air compressor continuous run, but this code pops up if the compressor runs for 3 minutes or more. The issue I have is an air hissing leak front the front left, I couldn't find anything from below so I removed the top cover to look at the sensor and it was just hanging to the side, not connected to the top of the strut. The brass tabs were broken and some of the plastic of the sensor was broken into pieces around the strut. I ordered another one anyways, but when I turn the car on for few minutes and hood the sensor to the top and then turn it off there is a hissing sound coming from the top of the strut...I looked below to see if the hose to the strut is the reason but it isn't, the sound only comes from the top and this is why the car tries to raise but then sinks....is it possible for these struts to just start leaking air and not hold pressure? or are there usually other areas around the top that could leak? the hose itself does not leak and I see no breaks of any kind. Or is it supposed to leak like this is the sensor is not attached?

You most likely will have to replace the strut and the sensor.

It really is not. I have done all 4 on mine. The hardest part was to remove the air line from the strut as it tends to get stuck. If the car spend its life in south, rust should not be an issue.

You do not have to remove any control arms but sway bar link if I remember correctly. It takes some physical strength especially installation.
