Hey everyone I have a 08 Ls460 w/ power & heated rear seats and the rear subwoofer is finally dead. I've been looking at my current options but I'm having a hard time figuring out exactly what I can do. I would prefer to upgrade the subwoofer if possible in stock location but if that ends up being too much of a headache to figure out then should I just go with a used one?
I'm trying to keep my budget under $500 but am willing to spend more if I there isn't any way around it. I won't be doing the work myself but a friend of mine will so getting any correct info would help a ton!
I also wouldn't mind just unplugging it, but if it means I have to take apart the rear seats then I'd rather just replace it at that point.
Was just reading about this earlier. If you have the ML some people have used 8ohm subs and claimed they're fine. Another suggested a dual voice sub wired so it's 16ohm. Factory is 14.something ohm. Most suggested just getting a factory replacement or fixing it. You'd have to search the forum because I'm too lazy to do it again.

Yeah its kinda confusing figuring out what is correct and what isn't. There doesn't seem to be a consensus on what direction to go from all the posts I've read. It's like you said everyone has there own way of doing it, but it's hard to say how reliable each direction is especially when it comes to cost.
I wouldn't mind using an 8ohm sub since it'd be the cheapest route I assume compared to getting a used or sending it in to get fix.

Many ways to reach the same destination. I'd say go the 8ohm route, at worst you just put in a 16ohm version years down the road.
