Revisiting disable smart key
ok speaking to someone briefly I understood that to disable smart key access something needs to be removed from the car.
so we have the smart key ecu near the driver, I assume that also controls keyless start? Or can someone expand on this?
what is an oscillator? I notice they name it differently wireless key I think just refers to the remote.
Not knowing anything at the moment, I think the best course of action is to unplug the smart key control unit in the trunk it is a receiver of some sort. Thoughts?
I don’t want to be negative, but sometimes people feel the need to provide the most asinine answers. If I wanted to pop off the chrome thing on the door and use the manual key like a cave man, I would not be asking the question. We are looking for ways to preserve what we want and do away with what we don’t. You know what I’ll just go do it and see what happens.
the smart key part I see as a security flaw too easy for someone to exploit. I don’t live in the US so pls don’t start with the usual why you can’t do this or that thing I’ll disconnect the control unit and let’s see what happens

The easiest way to disable the SmartKey, the feature that lets you unlock and lock the doors and start the car with the key in your pocket or purse, is through the Customizable Features. An electronic tool and a connection to the OBDII is required for earlier models to access this in the customizable features. On later models, the SmartKey can be disabled through the OBDII or by controls in the dash. If you disable the SmartKey you will have to lock and unlock the doors with the buttons on the remote key. Starting the engine with the SmartKey disabled requires use of the NFC device in the remote key.
