Got rear ended AGAIN...worse this time
You're lucky it was lifted as there are no structural components up there, if you took that hit directly in the bumper you could have had significant damage behind the bumper. I just got rear ended in a GS stopped at a light and the insurance totaled the car because of frame damage.
I just had a hit and run in the Home Depot parking lot to my bumper and rear parking sensor exactly 2 weeks after I got my 2010 IS 350 C.
I feel all the pain and frustration of this post!
Sooo..... Sorry, one more time. I got my nick/damage on my '08 LS 460L rear bumper while NOT in the car getting gas. Some idiot with a pick-up and trailer hitch backed/bumped into me and put a 1" gash in the plastic rear bumper. Wow, replacing these bumpers are expensive!! I should have had the dash cam to catch his tag.... he was gone by the time I got back. God, the guy forgot which side of the truck his fuel fill was at, and had to back into the filling island???? Most vehicles have the filling side it indicated on their dash?? Anyhow. I'm sure there were filling station cameras, but I was out of state... crap... wanted back on the road etc. etc. etc.
Gosh the driver of the Jeep looked like he was looking in the rear view, side mirror..... but there wasn't anyone behind him???? Could have been a iPhone there too? He was barely moving it seemed..... wow on the damage.
For my car, a new rear bumper and paint would have totaled the car, per State Farm.... so, I did a "poor boy" fix, ground out the cut, and some, epoxy, rubbing compound, and touch up paint... Looks OK.. My dad had a Body Shop when I was growing up.... I know a few tricks.
Inattentive driving is a major issue..... they need to deactivate the phone when the car is moving.... eventually this will happen I think.
Good luck.... If you had kids, you know, they do pull sh&t like this.

Hey Steve
I am sad to hear you got it again. Good thing you are okay and you had the cameras.
Just another example of why dash cams front/rear are a great idea.
Hope all goes well with repairs.

Thanks again for all the well wishes guys. At that speed, no hit to the bumper would have caused frame damage I wouldn’t think.
No attempt to get out of fault on their part. The dad has been very responsive and apologetic. Waiting on the adjusters to call me. I’ve never done diminished value either. This is the most damage I’ve ever had to a car. We’re going through their insurance but mine is standing by, and they have an appraiser on standby for the diminished value. When I mentioned to the insurance rep who called me that I wanted to pursue diminished value they didn’t even flinch.
I would imagine at least $5-7k in diminished value.

Looks like the entire trunk can just be replaced. As for the "blending", that's a bunch of bull****. I had a similar accident and took it to the best paint place in Orlando, FL, and they guy told me, Look, that's a bunch of bull. You won't be able to tell the difference. He replaced the Trunk hood, painted it, and he was right -- you can't tell the difference. It will be expensive but don't let them talk you into the blending to hike up the price.
