I have a strange problem with my Lexus LS 2007 that I couldn't find anywhere on the internet, not even here so any help would be much appreciated.
When I put the headlight switch to ON (the one between AUTO and the dot) the whole dashboard dims significantly and the navigation goes to night mode. Why am I putting the switch to ON? Simple, it is mandatory here where I live to drive with the headlights on the whole day so that the other drivers see you better and as far as I know this model of Lexus (it is a european model) does not have DRLs right?
Now - what the problem really is, I know that I can set up a Day Mode on the navigation but that changes only the navigation background. The clock and the temperature are still dimmed and I can't see the values at all when it is the middle of a day. What's more strange is - when I bought this car, it worked perfectly fine for a few months - I put the headlight switch to ON, and the dashboard only dimmed under a bridge, inside a tunnel or when the night came. During the day, it was bright and visible which now can be accomplished only by switching the headlights off (or auto if it is a middle of the day, but this switches the headlights off)
The battery is new and I have tried testing the light sensor at the front vents which responds to light/dark just fine.
Have you tried adjusting the dash lighting dimmer switch (up and down arrows) behind the headlight switch, just below the instrument cluster. It adjusts the brightness of all the dash lights including the instrument cluster, the center console and the clock/temp displays.
Once you play with the switch it's easy to figure out and make it all work the way you want.
You can just see the switch hidden in the very top right of this video.
it's normal for dashlight go dim if the light is ON at night. The only thing i don't get is the the dash light should not go dim at daytime due to sun sensor on top of the dash next to windshield.
AFAIK the backlight dimming cannot be disabled, but the sensitivity can be adjusted via Techstream:
Here's my post about testing the Sensitivity setting. If the two other settings work by the same logic, setting the first one to DARK2 should make the car wait until it gets darker before dimming the backlight...I guess.
