GX470 as Second Car
Hey gents I am thinking of adding a 2006 GX470 to the fleet to alleviate the use on the LS and to eliminate some sedan limitations regarding carrying cargo and towing small trailers. It would be a second car for me as my wife has a sienna limited.
anyone done something like this? I love daily driving my 13’ LS460L but at times I need to carry certain items and am limited to towing small trailers with my wife’s car. I am getting a good deal on the gx so I think it won’t depreciate much from where I will be at on it.
thoughts on the GX?

Drive it to see if you like it. I’ve had a 2004 GX in the past, it had good space but I have to admit it is under powered.
If you can swing it look for a LX. I have a 2014 LX and it is a beautiful truck with ample power and space. Feels like a tank when you drive it, great as a family hauler. Only gripe is the MPG. As many say, you need to pay to play.

I have one. Drive it on the weekends and it makes the LS seem so comfortable on Monday morning. Amazing in snow and off road. Very reliable and easy to maintain. Needs a nice big center console like the LS to lean on though, the armrests are tiny on the GX 470. But its a tank and ready to get down and dirty any time. Great stereo too.

You guys are confirming my fears on the GX versus truck. I had 4 Lexus sedans back to back then jumped to a 1794 Tundra but just really didn't enjoy daily driving a truck. Also going from 3 Mark Levinson cars to a JBL toyota system was a shocker. My biggest complaoinjt on the tundra was the horrendous stereo. The Tundra was very useful and miraculously albeit not 100% safely towed my 33' Grady White a couple of times for hurricane haulout. I would not use GX for that. GX would tow only my little 15' Boston Whaler we tow around the state which even my wife's Sienna handles with ease.
After the truck I went back to an LS and love it but as we all know they are limited. I think I need to search for an older Tundra as a a hauler. Thanks for all the input guys.

Whats held you back from pulling the trigger?

I think we are in the exact parallel situation. I know that it would be useful but I’m having a tough time justifying spending the money plus the insurance payments for something that I know I will use extremely infrequently.
When I bought my LS in 2015 I considered selling my 2003 Sequoia. Since my wife had a 2009 RX I thought that would be sufficient for the occasional times we needed to carry something that wouldn't fit in a sedan trunk. I'm the main and usually sole driver on trips, and I don't like driving the RX. And since I am particular about my LS (no nail filing or makeup or eating and no drinks except water) my wife doesn't want to take trips in it. So we still use the Sequoia for most trips and the LS is truly mine and mine alone. The Sequoia blue book probably isn't that much and insurance is not much. There are only 2 things needing repair ("D" light on dash does not light up and one speaker is blown) other than paint scratches but I wouldn't hesitate to drive it cross country right now. Apart from it's low gas mileage and occasional parking space size woes it really doesn't have many drawbacks to me. I have enjoyed having a reliable "beater" for running errands around town. It's also a good "loaner" when my wife or daughter are having work done on their cars for them to use. So I'm sold on the convenience of a second vehicle, even though I know my Sequoia can't haul everything. If it ever has a major repair I'll probably dump it and look to buy a used pickup, perhaos something like a 4dr Tacoma. Good luck with your decision!
