jrmckinley, I agree with you completely re: maintaining vs. buying another. All the recent work I described at the beginning of this post cost me a little north of $4k, but other than 5k service requirements, that's the most I've ever spent on it.

I just don't want/need another car payment at this stage of my life, so I baby this car. Unless I crash it, hopefully it WILL be my last car.
Why did you get rid of the 2012 LS460?

RussLS460, I bought the new 2012 when I was still working for a corporation, and had a pretty hefty car allowance (and my car payment was hefty too). When I bought my business and became self-employed, well...I'm sure you know why...

Nice car! About to pick up an 07 Smokey Granite myself...

Can you elaborate on the interior "recall"?

What was replaced and why?

Thank you! It's called a Lexus Warranty Enhancement : ZLZ

If you do a search on this forum under "melting or sticky door panels", you'll see tons of information. The entire dashboard, armrest, all 4 door panels, and small panel in the center rear (where the 2 rear vents are) are being replaced. Make sure this was done BEFORE you pull the trigger on the 07'.

The car I am buying only has 31k miles, and the dash and other panels don't really look too bad.
My friend (who I am buying it from) said it falls under the extension for the dashboard, but didn't know if the rest would be covered. I would assume not since they seem to be in good condition.

I had a 2008 LS460 same color combo as yours. I too had the door panels and glove box replaced by Lexus at no cost to me.

At 165,000 miles my transmission went bad; it was estimated to cost $6,000 to repair. Sadly, we traded the car in for a new one. Aside from that, the car had no mechanical work required.

Good luck!

Was that the cost of a NEW transmission, or just a repair/rebuild?

The price to repair/rebuild. I have no idea what the cost would have been to replace it with a new one, although I imagine a lot more.

No, it was a repair. Lexus sent me to the transmission specialist they use in town because they didn't do major tranny repairs. The shop estimated it would cost $6,000, BUT, told me it would cost $1900 just to remove/reinstall the transmission to do the estimate; that is, once they gave me a firm estimate, if I declined, I would still have to pay the $1900 for the removal/reinstall procedure. So it was not for a new transmission; it was to repair the old one.

RWD LS460 transmissions are very cheap when bought on the used market. There's a lot more supply than demand because they seem to be reliable units.

By cheap, I mean that you can have one for $250.

$1900 to remove and replace the transmission? That's an abusive price. It helps to shop around.
