Hi, serial license-plate-blocker-outer here. I totally get your point. I can't speak for others but I do it to clean up the photo and bring the attention/focus directly on the car. I find the numbers/letters (especially depending on state design) distracting & a bit visually messy and unappealing. I'm not a public figure so I'm not too worried about privacy, for the exact reason you mentioned.

Why do you care enough to make a thread?

Exactly. I don’t want anyone here or on any website or forum knowing anything about me. I also use a bogus email address so it does not clutter my regular email address.

i don’t know why anyone would want to put their plate # here for anyone to research. Next thing there will be some lunatic from CL coming down your driveway waving a baseball bat and complaining how they disagree with an opinion you had on CL. Common sense to remain anonymous.

This is pretty rude, IMHO...not to mention off topic.

IMHO its one thing to have your license plate displayed on your car on the road amongst a sea of other cars, its another thing to display your car and your license plate and link it to an online account and persona such as one has on a forum like this. Pictures you put online are there forever and cannot be removed from the internet with certainty. I totally understand why people don't want to display a number where they can be traced to their home address on the internet on a forum like this. There are a lot of crazy people out there.

In todays world, it's hard to set the bar on a rational level of paranoia. These days, you probably can't be too careful. It's too bad (some) people are nuts.

What's the issue? I don't have social media and I refuse to divulge personal details online.

I agree with the OP (though not enough to have found it necessary to actually create a thread about it). lol.

Maybe it's different in Canada, but there are far more important things for me to worry about than blurring my plate...and in my profession, there are those who might want to cause me harm. And yet...I just can't be bothered. If someone wishes me harm, they'll find a way regardless of my plate being exposed in a photo on a website somewhere. Privacy is a huge issue in Canada, so gaining access to a person's info from a plate is VERY difficult. I choose my battles, and going to the effort or bother of blurring my plates, ain't one of them.

I once posted my Blackstone Labs report on a car forum. On it was my address and phone number. I received countless messages and responses from members aghast at the fact that this info was available to view. Again, I could care less....unless my credit card info was visible.

Well you guys and gals do what you want. I personally am not releasing my info on the internet. A place where crazy people hide behind fake names and reign garbage negative crap from their parent's basement. I'll keep my info private. lol

You do now....

Social media are interactive Web 2.0 Internet-based applications. User-generated content, such as text posts or comments, digital photos or videos, and data generated through all online interactions, is the lifeblood of social media.

origanal poster your so right

i should have my license plate up on the internet on a car forum

showing photos of a 80,000 car in front of 1,000,000 homes like some post

from the plate any yahoooo on a forum posting content like this thread can find out where i live with my name , address, and target my home.

maybe a demographic of LS 460 and 500 customers are good usually 55-75 years old with net worth in the millions because they have the sense not to buy S classes and other german cars that are problematic

yes your right we should post our plate great thread
