I have to agree with you. I have seen a couple of the 07-09 models which stitched armrests and they were deteriorated. Do any of the old brochures say what areas are covered in leather? Im gonna look into it.
as far as I know the only things leather in the 07-09s (possibly 07-12) is the seats, middle arm rest , shift **** and steering wheel , nothing else.

I can say from my LS400 and LS430 days, you dont want those armrests to be real leather. The area where you close the door is a huge wear point.
yea the door handles in my 430 got very worn out but I just hate the cheap feel of vinyl
Leather can at least be refinished every couple years to keep it looking good
