I would ageee with that, that’s how i would describe the way the S 550 excels over the LS. Bearing in mind mines a 17 and the structure was tightened in 13 and again in 16 (my 17 is notably more rigid than my 15 was)

 

Especially with the ABC (active body control) I have it on my CL 600 and the SL550 the system is absolutely amazing, they improved it in the 2015 and up S class but it is being offered as a $4000 option now.

I can live with mine because i love a lot about it and am taking miles off my wifes bmw that i drive and is a recipe for disaster racking up the miles

i also have about 5k of depreciation i will get hit with much less than if i upgraded to a 16 or 17

so its a trade off

Elmer, we have read similar threads here from time to time. Invariably it is a higher mileage car with one or more previous owners. The problem is we don't know how the car was driven or maintained. I suspect your car was abused by the previous owner(s). Consequently repairs to the suspension and cruise control issues appear (I have radar cc on my 2007 and never had any problem with it). Do you know if it was an auction car? Not all auction cars are bad by any means, but you do need to be aware there may be a reason it was sent to auction.

I know you said you got a good deal, and sometimes there's a reason for that. I agree that your best solution is to get out of the car now because you are not going to be happy with it.

 

If you think the wind noise can be cured by what's described in the technical service bulletin then you should press forward with that fix via DIY, independent, or dealer. Keep in mind a TSB is supposed to be an internal manufacturer document which simply tells technicians how to fix a certain problem to aviod troubleshooting hours. It isn't a recall nor are dealers obligated to provide you with a no cost fix out of warranty. Anyone who gets a no cost TSB fix done is either under warranty or has it done via good will. You can however get the documentation and provide it to your mechanic or accomplsh DIY.

 

The tyres fitted are Michelin Primacy 4's, quiet an expensive set of tyres. I thought no expense would be spared on such a vehicle. Sure, there is no tyre noise or noise from the undercarriage but general road noise is there. I guess my expectations were really high, maybe Rolls Royce high.

Also yes, the LS460 *does* feel less rigid than a C Class. Something about the entire chassis "wobbling" and not going over bumps smoothly, it feels jittery. You know, when the car coasts, there's these small vibrations even over the smoothest surfaces? It's there and annoying.

That feeling when you're doing 110km/h in a german, feels like 30km/h ? Yeah that's not that there either.

The wind noise has been isolated to the passenger window. Not going to bother with troubleshooting since it's so trivial and overall not happy with this vehicle.

Sorry guys, this vehicle just feels like a glorified Toyota sedan.

I'll keep it for a few until I can flip it, for half of what I paid I'm sure - there's just no market for this vehile or large luxury sedans here.

Take for example, acquaintance recently purchased a 2018 BMW 740Li for approx $220,000 (approx $155,000 USD). It's not even worth $90k after a year.

Do not have home work done to them without a certified mechanic

Unsure of owners driving habits

and a car with a faulty suspension Usaully will lead to:

a not so positive outcome and a c class competitor

safe driving with your ride

 

I am surprised to hear these issues. However a 9 year old car with 90k miles unless it was maintained very well will likely not be perfect. When I bought my 2013 L in 2018 I wasn’t looking for it. I was looking for a 16-17 with low miles. My 13’ was a one owner old lady driven car with excessive service records at dealer and garage kept.

Because of conditions i flew 750 miles to go get it and i sacrificed a few years on my search criteria. However it is now 6 years old. Mine is still perfect but if it did have an issue I wouldn’t be upset as it is not a spring chicken anymore.

 

My 2013 SWB LS460 with air suspension rides better than my 2018 Cadillac CT6. The Lexus has 152k miles, the CT6 has 11k. I totally agree with Steve. An S-Class Benz is better, but only by a small margin. Our roads in Appalachia are FAR from optimal. I am 100% certain it's something going on with your car.

 

If your expectation was a Rolls Royce Dawn your expectations were way out of whack. A Rolls Royce costs 5-6 times what an LS460 costs new.

Your description of a “jittery” ride and wobbling over smooth surfaces does not describe the ride in either of the LS460s I’ve had.

 

Then sell it.

 

I still can't figure out why someone would think all you have to do to have a car that drives like a new $350,000 Rolls Royce Dawn is buy a 10 year old LS460 Ridiculous.

 

Poor Steve just don't get it. If you drove my 2008 LS460L, you would think you were in a DAWN. SMOOOVE !!!!
