Default Resolved

I sent email to Service Manager and he stated he would gladly authorize replacement of spark plugs at no cost to me. He appologized for the “confusion”. I have to wonder how often this practice occurs with people just not noticing on service receipt that an expensive service was not performed on the no cost CPO. RESOLVED. Thanks for everyones input.

very happy that you pushed and got what you paid for and rightly deserved. I’m tired of reading threads where people just flake out and back off. Good job !

The suspicious side of me says to make a felt pen mark on the plugs to be certain they change them. The service manager's eagerness to suddenly oblige you raises an alarm bell.

I like your paranoia! In my line of work, we always say "trust but verify!"

We used to say "In God We Trust, everyone else goes through NCIC"

Lol. I told Service Manager I will get plugs changed during my last CPO, 65,000 miles. I think great idea, i will mark the plugs. How easy is it for a non mechanical person to get to the plugs? Again thanks for everyones sugestions.

Honestly, if you mark the plugs you may as well just change them yourself.

The dealer will change them.

Awesome. Glad he's doing the right thing without you having to push any harder. I'm typically skeptical about stuff like this so I tend to assume this is done intentionally as a way to have them allocate their time on things that are more profitable. Service that falls through the cracks is like a gift card that gets lost... 100% margin!

Normally I'd agree. Just that in this case....dealer seems to be "one of those". Guess I've watched too many 60 Minutes type programs (and their Canadian versions) where crap like this happens. As one who replaced the plugs myself, marking with a felt pen is definitely easier. You could also just ask for the old parts back.

Purely out of curiosity but dealerships pay Lexus a fee to certify these vehicles (profit sharing, licensing, call it what you may). In return, Lexus underwrites a generous warranty for these vehicles but doesn't Lexus also pay for the 4 scheduled maintenance visits?
i.e. if a certified LS460 requires control arms (warranty), or spark plugs (maintenance) wouldn't the dealer be charging Lexus anyway?

4 years ago when I bought my 2010 LWD, the finance manager told me that they pay Lexus $1K for the CPO

They do pay the dealer, but they dont pay anywhere close to what an end user pays, so the techs don't get paid a lot to do it.

I was told the dealer gets reimbursed by Lexus around $480 for the 60,000 service and I understand normal Charge is around $1,000. Im told thats why they told me that the spark plug replacement was optional and that It would cost me $580 if I wanted it done. Looks like they were trying to recover their full normal price. This probably works for them most of the time. It just gives me a bad feeling about Lexus warranties. Now I wonder if the other items were completed on the 60,000 service.
