Default Advanced Illumination Glove box strip in 2013

So I was fortunate enough to buy a nice 13 LS460 the other day and am completely head over heels with the car. After looking at some Lexus videos I found one that talks about ambient lighting over the glove box and left drivers side dash area. I went to check it out in my car however it is not lighting up (on either side). I hooked it up to techstream hoping that maybe it's setting was turned off however it was on (Pattern 1), I switched it to pattern 2 hoping to fix it but that didn't work.

Could it be a bad fuse? Can I check if the strips are burned out with techstream? and If they are burned out how much would it cost to replace them?

From what I've seen, that strip goes bad on almost every car. It's dead on my 2013 too. It is not a simple repair either.

I saw a post about this awhile back and checked mine. The post, I believe, said theirs was only partially lit across the length of the glove box. At first, I thought mine was not working at all, then I realized it was very subtle and had to be pretty dark out to actually notice that it was fully working.

At first, I thought maybe it was not lighting up enough and maybe that was the problem, however, when driving in one night from out of town and on the road, I realized I would not want it any brighter anyway and that maybe it was designed that way.

So I was able to find the parts I think:

7 55011-50090 Insert $122.12
8 55012-50120 Insert $36.70

Honestly, the driver's side looks simple enough but removing the trim on the dash sort of scares me. I am not sure I will attempt it now however if someone has I would appreciate some advice.

It is lame that the strip goes bad on most cars. The parts are not that expensive, I might tinker with it down the road and see if the strip can be rebuilt with new led's or customized.

Removing that trim on the dash on the passenger side is actually not hard at all, it just pulls out

My 13’s ambient light above the glove box and driver side are not working too. It seems to be a problem for most of owners.

My ambient lights are working fine also.

Here is another thread discussing this issue. One CLer, Fatherto1, had them replaced for $230.

I can confirm 55011-50090 ("Garnish Light Assembly") is the correct part number above the glove box. I believe it was $106 from lexuspartsnow.com two years ago. Dealership quoted $312 and although I paid my mechanic $230 to do it, I will advise others to save the money or spend it on something else. The effect simply isn't worth it. Look at the included videos in the link that comotiger posted, the ambient light is very dim. Do you even notice the ambient lighting for the door handles or footwell? It is so subtle that it takes my eyes a moment to detect any light coming from those areas at night. In Park, the ambient strip is brighter, but as soon as you shift out of Park then you won't even notice the ambient light anymore. Very disappointing and I have not figured out a way to bypass the logic that dims the ambient light. I forgot I even have working ambient light strips because they're so dim and go unnoticed.

Are you absolutley sure they're not working, did you turn up the interior gauge lighting all the way up? Most people run with this somewhat dim.

I did try that to no avail. One other thing I noticed is that the headlight stalk is not illuminated, is this part supposed to be backlit? I leave them on auto but adjusting it in the dark can be tricky.

The stalks are not backlit.

I don't really see how people say they cant see this ambient lighting, its pretty obvious IMHO
