Default I’ve asked this before but: disabling smart key

i want to disable the feature where the key fob sends out signals to the car so it will open when you are near etc I want to totally disable that feature, either on the car or on the fob.

So so far as far as I understand it the fob doesn’t stop sending out signals. So I think the easier way to do it is to stop the car from being able to respond to these signals.

You can turn smart key access off, you'd need Techstream or Carista to do it on your model.

My question is, why?

He lives in Ukraine...it's a bit of a different situation there for a number of reasons. An absolutely fantastic country with amazing people, but very different security issues than what we see in the USA.

I replaced the outer shell of my key fob with a small metal box. Besides making the fob much smaller and lighter, it reduces the distance the radio will communicate unless I open the box. If I'm walking around somewhere, a car thief would have to be pretty close to me with a radio device to make it work--I mean I'd probably notice.

If that isn't enough, you can take the battery out of the fob and it'll only work to start the car when hold directly against the start button. (It has an RFID chip inside). But you'd have to unlock the door another way. (Enform app or metal key).

The option to disable the remote key is the option you want.
