I've been looking a lot more on line at 2014's and some 15's. My preference has been black on black, RWD, Levinson system on a base 460. The L is great but the 5 extra inches, while it will fit in the garage, would take up walk thru space. I'm in no rush, but I'm certainly beginning the journey. If I can find a CPO I may go that route as well. Been fun looking!!

 

You should drive the LWB before you decide. I like the LWB car so much more than my SWB one.

 

From a safety standpoint , especially in winter driving the AWD is forsure the way to go. I drive mine in the winter and I know id appreciate it during those times, but I don't like how it loses like 30hp somehow , and the lack of aftermarket support for suspension and control arms is a concern.

But the honest truth is I made an offer on a 2014 460L awd which was being sold by a lexus dealer for a great price, it looked mint but had a rear collision on the carfax , clean title though. I tried to get 4-5 grand knocked off their already decent price but they wouldn't budge.

Sometimes if the right deal comes around you have to take it and make the best of it.

The interior on the pre 13's is really dated now, that's my main driving factor.

 

Thus far I can say in my year of ownership and driving through one Chicago winter in my '13 AWD (non air) SWB, it's had zero problems or issues. Only mpg but that is expected :P

 

I don't know what the deal is with Lexus dealers, but from my shopping experience and from what I'm seeing going through the auctions, they seem to be the worst place to try and get a solid deal on a used car. The wholesale/retail spread is bigger than you'd think.

 

A little... But fortunately, not too much. I have blind spot monitoring in my other vehicles and never really notice it when I'm changing lanes. I've been driving for so long the idea of relying on the little yellow light just doesn't click in to my brain. I always look over my shoulder carefully, regardless of whether the light is on or not.

 

I have 18" OEM on my 460L, I have good tires with less than 15K on them. It does fine on light to a few inches but, can get a little slick and hard drive. I have had 3 LS models with rear wheel drive, as I love a good RWD car, in the snow it leaves a lot to be desired. I still have my sand bags I used on my old 430... as it helped.

Thanks that does help. I have HEARD the the pre-13's are getting dated but, I don't want to know or even drive one.

I love my car, I look forward to getting into it every morning to go to work. I don't want to destroy that before it's time... the time when I am ready to get another car.

 

Could use some thoughts here. Last night I met the husband of one of my wife's friends while out to dinner. He owns an auto fleet company that buys and leases cars. He keeps about 100 cars on the lot and does fleet leasing as well as going to auction and purchasing cars for individuals for a small fee. Anyone have thoughts on this? What should I be asking him, or looking for etc. I'd like to be prepared and have a better grip of what I'm doing should I try this. Any help would be appreciated.

 

Coincidentally, I was just watching a YouTube video on this last night but it was from the perspective of the dealer. My biggest take away was to make sure to get there early so you can inspect the vehicle(s) you're interested in beforehand. Once they start the auction they won't even let you look inside the car. I don't know if that's true as I've never been. Also, set your budget and try your best not exceed it. Have the funds readily available.
