Default Blind Spot Monitor System

Has anybody installed or considered an aftermarket blind spot monitor system? I don’t mean oval mirrors, I already have those. My Jeep has this with big mirrors and I am totally addicted.

I looked into this when I was considering whether to purchase a 2012 or 2013 MY. They do sell aftermarket systems (there is one brand that is most popular that I cannot remember the name right now but I can look for again if you want). It's a pretty good system, the alert light is mounted inside on the door I believe. A little bit sensitive at times. I was quoted about $800 by my local audio/stereo install company. They said they would not need to drill into the bumper for install. However, this does not include the rear cross traffic alert that is standard on a 2013. So it helped inform my choice to go with a 2013 MY.

I wanted to install on my previous 2012 LS and did the ground work. By the time I finalize the install, ended up getting 2014 LS and didn't need after market one. I love BSM, very convenient.

There are two types available; radar and microwave based. Microwave based radar sensor seems more superior to radar based ones and provide less false positive. One thing after market misses compared to OEM is the integration to turn signal. Its minor feature I was willing to compromise.

Brandmotion (automotive supplier Johnson Controls ): Easy communication. Local dealer for install. They will sell directly to consumer but suggested 'working deal' with installer as installer do get discounted price. They were very upfront. Install directly from dealer is cheaper than buying from Brandmotion and taking it to installer. If my memory serves correctly, parts are either made in USA or Europe and assembled in China. You could ask them to confirm.

VOXX electronics (remember audiovox ?) - https://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_121737_VOXX-Electronics-ACABSD-Blind-Spot-Detection-Parking-Sensors.html

Echo
master : haven't done research on this. http://www.abt.com/product/110257/Ec...m-PBSMWSK.html

Things to consider;
  • Less false positive
  • Interference with other (OEM) sensors and electronics
  • Type of warranty support and period
  • Quality of product - to me where it was designed, parts were manufactured etc
I would avoid ebay knockouts that sells for $100 or so.

They all can integrate with the turn signals but I don't care for having the audible portion even turned on. My wife likes it and its her Jeep so I leave it on. If I get a kit I will install it myself and not even hook up the turn signals anyway. The radar based pickup units just mount inside the fender and don't need any sensor holes but I have also read they are not the best functioning. If I take the leap I will take pictures along the way and do a simple write up. I may be ready to tackle this, hell there's nothing else to do to this car, nothing ever breaks.
