Question Older vs Newer

I have a 09 LS with 80,300 miles. No problems except for interior deterioration ( arms rests, Glove door, etc. ) I had previously a 2004 430 with 105,000 miles that my service advisor suggested I keep because their rep was bullet proof, but did I listen,,,,,nooooo. I’m not driving as much these days ( 10,000 miles per yr ) but looking for longevity. I’m looking at going back to a 2006 LS 430 with 90,000 miles. Love the style and the much different driving aspects of the 430 vs 460. Any thoughts or suggestions other than what my wife has offered about my sanity?

Sounds like you actually like the 430 better anyway, so why not go back? But no I don't think the 430 will give you any long term reliability benefits over the 460. You'll have to replace the control arms, but you'll never have to do a timing belt (that pretty much equals things out).

Thanks for the reply. I had thought about control arms ( I’ve been told mine are wearing but not in need of replacement yet ) and the timing belt. I think you’re right, it just comes down to a personal choice, logic be damned.

From a reliability standpoint trading in a newer car for an older car makes no sense. The LS430s at this point are quite old, and you will certainly experience more age related repairs with an LS430 than you will your newer LS460. At 10k miles a year use and with your LS460 having 80k miles, you have nothing to worry about from a reliability perspective.

Now, financially your 09 should be worth more than the 06 LS430 so its not a "dumb move". Having had both cars I can't imagine wanting to go backwards but if you do, go for it. Just don't do it because you're worried about reliability.

I would not go back. Unless you find A WELL maintained one with LOW miles I'm betting the leather will look worn. At least that's my take since the majority of the ones I looked at last year had worn leather. Plus the dash will look ancient compared to your 460. The 430 does ride well and you most likely won't have any issues but like Steve stated you might have more age related repairs.
