Default Might go back to stock brakes after Centrics

The Centric Posi-Quiet brake pads and rotors perform well but it feels like the OEM sets had more bite and shorter stopping distances. Sure, the OEM brake pads and rotors were grabby but I was starting to get used to it and could modulate them smoothly. How much of stopping power is due to brake pads versus tire grip?

I could never go back to those grabby POS brakes again. That and the ever-warping rotors that drove me crazy. These are sooo smooth and linear which is more important to me than MAYBE shaving a few feet off braking distance (which may not even be the case). Sorry they aren't working for you. Let us know what you decide.

I didn't have the OEM set nearly long enough to experience the rotor warpage. I ordered the Centric parts a few days after getting the LS. I drove with the OEM brake set for a week and was just getting used to their initial bite when the Centric parts arrived. I had second thoughts about switching and went ahead with the Centrics since they arrived already. I don't regret the change and the pedal feel is indeed more linear and smoother than the OEM parts, but I do feel there's less stopping power. It is especially evident on steep grades or when traffic starts to move but then I need to stop right after shifting into second gear. Braking right after an upshift feels as if the car doesn't slow down immediately. The Centric parts offer smoother pedal action but the OEM brake set, grabby as it is, stopped on a dime and inspired more confidence. Glad to try out the Centrics and have something to compare against, just not sure I would replace them with the same set.

What? You didn't own the car for more than a couple of weeks? LOL. I'm being somewhat sarcastic of course, but honestly, those things warp if you just look at them wrong.

Have you considered Akebono?

What is the preferred combination of pads and rotors? I have a 2013 460L and will be upgrading from OEM soon. I want smooth stopping and reduced brake dust. I am getting the shudder in harder braking applications right now.

I actually find nothing wrong with factory set up. I did experience the initial grabbiness is talked about but I'm used to it now and I don't think twice about it. What does annoy me is the clicking I can clearly hear when lightly applying the brakes in park.

The OEM brakes were terrible. Rotors were awful. I used the Akebono and Centric combo and had no issues at all. They worked great.

I can testify also the OEM ones do not last and brake dust is bad. Centric for me the past year have been great.

So I’ve effectively gone back to the OEM set up in my new 2017 from the Centric set up I had on the 2015. Don’t go back lol. The Centrics have such a better feel than the OEM setup which grabs and growls and feels rough and dusts like crazy. No joke I've actually thought about doing the centric rotors and pads now, although my wife would kill me. She almost lost it when the tires went on, seriously aside from the tires the Centrics had the largest impact on the car’s overall feel. No joke, at 412 miles my rotors have a slight warp. They did actually when I picked it up with 32 miles on it.

It’s all in your head. The OEM setup just stops with more feedback which makes it feel like stopping distances are longer, they aren’t.

That is the same combo (Akebono pads & Centric Rotors) I went with on our 2010 460L. I like the combo a lot but I have noticed that when we are up in NE visiting the MIL and the LS gets left outside or it is real cold they will squeak/squeal the first thing in the morning. They only do it once when you first hits the brakes but there is no doubt that the brakes are squealing.

I've put 8k miles on these and I do a majority of highway driving at 70-80+ mph. One straight 800 mile road trip when I bought the car and 2 600mile roundtrips to Buffalo. The OEM brakes performed flawlessly and no warped rotors either so I don't know what you guys are doing to warp your rotors. I'm sure there are better pads than the OEM ones but to say they are garbage is an a bit over the top IMO. If you want to talk about brake dust they have nothing on the the original OEM pads for my wifes GS which would turn the front rim black in no time.

I already told you..."we looked at them wrong".

Seriously though, just google "warped brake rotors LS460". You will be rewarded with page after page of results. It's not an anomally. My centrics are just as smooth as the day I installed them. The OEMs' warped after only a couple of months of use. I also have the previous owners service history from the dealer and they replaced the rotors numerous times in the first few years of ownership.
