Or in your case it could be inattention to detail. I think you need to take your mechanic to People's Court for that oil mess he created!

It prevents the canister from backing out/unscrewing itself.
If I were you, I'd replace the canister and filter. And do they even fit the 2007? Because i check the part number listed and it came back as not compatible.
