OK, So, I got lucky with My Old 2007 LWB because it had all the bells and whistles but now, I want another one just like it. I found that one after two months of looking around.

Question: If you were going to buy a used LS460L, What year was it when all the wind noise and control arms and actuators were fixed? Thanks in advance.

Doublebase 12-23-17 10:25 AM

2010? Although I don't think the control arms were ever "fixed". Then again I don't think they were ever broken, the only thing that needed fixing were people needed to stop taking it to the dealer for simple suspension repairs that all cars suffer from. Once people realized that? Problem solved.

Personally I think if you wanted to spend a little more you could go for a 2014 when they did the complete refresh. Beautiful interiors with the same reliable (and capable) power plant. Those cars are going to be a real bargain once the 2018's come out.

My goal has always been, shoot for maximum equipment, minimal mileage, and most current year, based on my cash-on-hand.

I'd own any up to the Predator-nose ones. I hate that look.

Two months?! Dude, it took me six years to find the 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9L I have.

BTW, that picture still makes me want to cry.

Nah... That's nothing! If it's totaled, take the money from the insurance company, buy it back, and fix it! I have a salvage titled '08 and in 1 year and 15K miles it's been bulletproof.

I just don't have the time or space to be bothered with it. Thanks anyway.

Has anyone compared the ride between the Base Vs. The LWB "L" ?

In the comparisons I've seen people don't notice a difference in the ride quality. The L comes with more standard equipment, but from a driver's viewpoint, I think the feel is the same as in the SWB car. Obviously your rear seat passengers will notice the extra room in the L.

I understand.

It hurts, but yeah, I understand.

See, me, I'd pull that fender, the inner fender, figure out a way to put the guts hanging out back in (non-permanent at this point), then rock it until I had time.

"But no headlamp or turn indicator!"

Oh, there's gonna be creativity...enough to disturb some folks.

edit: Okay, serious questions:

Any colors you hate, or at least a preference for a few? Like I won't do a black car, again.

Options you've gotta have? I figure Levinson is one.

Is another "L" okay?

Now, the big ones...ballpark how much money, and are you adverse to out-of-town? When I say "out-of-town", I mean, someone on the other end checks it out for an appropriate bribe, and if it's okay, stick that sucker on a transport for a $600, or thereabouts, fee. Done.

I gotta have another Silver L Model. That covers everything. I'll find one under 20K. The only one I've found so far has a Black interior but I don't really like that interior. I like the Alabaster or Parchment color.

I haven't tried the LWB car but, as a rule, the longer the wheelbase, the better the ride.

Very hard to find the light cream interiors with silver. Almost all are grey or black interiors.

It’s very similar, rides perhaps slightly better.

If you're looking for the same style LS460 but with newer options like side mirror turn signals, USB, and bluetooth audio to name a few, then consider a 2011-2012. Seems to me that's when Lexus got things right for the most part.

I think the 2011 is the one I need.

I did a ton of research before moving to the 460. In addition to me preferring the exterior styling of '10-'12 over '07-'09, I also wanted things like streaming BT and wanted a model where most of the kinks were worked out. Kinks I'm referring to were things like brake actuator, wind noise, control arms and sticky dash and door panels. I bought a very late production 2010 460L (July) and feel mine suffers from the sticky dash and door panels and I possibly have a control arm concern that I need to get investigated (hoping just a ball joint).

Nonetheless, I think if you go with a '10 and beyond you're good for the most part. A '12 would give me the most confidence but you may not be able to hit your $20k price target.

For pricing, I paid $22k this March for my non-CPO 2010 460L and felt like I got a very fair deal. It has the 19" 5 stars (like yours in picture), Levinson, but no air ride and no crazy rear seat package. It had 65k miles on it when I bought it and was in awesome shape with a perfect maintenance history. Shouldn't be too hard for you to find one around the $20k mark - I'm thinking miles may be around 75k-80k to hit that price point.

Good luck in the hunt.
