Someone backed into my LS and almost hit-and-run

Sucks! At least those attendants were there. I had a similar thing happen to me in my ES350 at my garage at work, in a space I shouldn’t have ever parked in.
Live and learn! I don’t have the luxury of just leaving, but I do take the time to find the right spot.

Some days I really think that all, or most, women should be forced to drive SmartForTwo's (including my wife). And be forced to put a strobe on the top ... like a school bus. Of late, I've had so many near misses with females NOT paying attention. Sure, males are not perfect either, and some completely suck as drivers.
But I'm speaking only of my incidents as of lately. And it has been, in parking lots, town streets, interstates, everywhere, and frequent. Had the whole family in my truck the other day. I'm rolling up on stopped traffic at a traffic light controlled intersection, just as the light is turning green ... in a left turn lane. The straight on lane to my right was clearing out ... and so was ALL the traffic ahead of the ... ahem, driver I was rolling up on. The driver looking at their cellphone undoubtedly, instead of paying attention. Me being sick and tired of dealing with certain drivers who don't pay attention, I just rolled right into the straight on lane, then went back left into the turn lane, right on around that car like it was a pothole, and made my left turn in the intersection. When I got in the intersection the light turned yellow. The other driver I went around looked up when I went around because my truck ... is not quiet. When that driver started to go, they rolled up to the intersection, but then stopped because the light turned yellow. Several cars behind got held up also. I would have been cussing if I had stayed behind. And maybe finally reached the life span of my horn.
A cop was sitting there watching the whole thing (to my right, which made me nervous to do this, but I've just been fed up with other drivers as of late). He probably mumbled, "I don't blame that guy," and he didn't take any action. My sons laughed and laughed and laughed for about 5 minutes. The point being ... some people should not be driving, and our driver testing and requalification should be more rigid.

Sorry, Jason, your maneuver of pulling around the texting driver was very risky too, and could have itself easily caused an accident (sometimes people in that straight on lane are moving very fast to beat the light). If you had honked for a couple of seconds as soon as the traffic ahead of her car cleared, she would have woken up from her texting and speeded up quickly. There are probably insurance stats on accident rates by the driver's gender, but if there is no correlation between the two, then your anecdotal data are just that and don't mean a thing.
I completely agree that texting and driving is so rampant that I am surprised there are not more accidents. Hopefully the advent of "autonomous" vehicles will increase the margin for safety.

I do agree with Jason that driver's licenses are handed out way too easily. I read an article about how so many people were failing California's written portion of the license test, so California DMV decided to make the test easier. What the heck! I wish people took driving seriously like in European countries rather than treating a driver's license as an entitlement.

I had an almost identical situation a few months ago and I think I mentioned it on another one of your posts. I, too, had an inner voice telling me not to park in front of the handicap spot, but I was only grabbing coffee, so I figured I'd be in and out. I get my coffee and walk out to my car and am stopped by a woman with her stroller asking me if the silver Lexus is mine. I said yes as my heart sank. The woman pointed to a white suburban and said that the lady had backed into my car. I thank the lady and walk to my car to survey the damage. A man comes from the passenger side of the suburban and tells me the woman driving backed into my car. I look and see a woman sobbing in the driver seat. The man leans in a tells me the woman is a "horrible driver" and that she was going to drive away, but he stopped her. It turns out this guy was a city councilman, so don't ever say all politicians are liars . Anyways, the lady gets out of the car and has a note written with her information. She tells me she hasn't driven in 6 months after recovering from surgery. It took me everything not to say something snarky to her, but I did genuinely feel bad for how upset she was. I told her I would have the damage assessed and would deal with her insurance company should it warrant a repair. I'm super **** about paint matching, so I had the scratch buffed out and chose to live with the dent for now. I've yet to take it to a paintless dent specialist, but a few people have told me the dent might be too "sharp" for it to be repaired.

you would be surprised of what they can take out give it a shot most likely they will tell if they can or cannot handle it, I once had a fender backed into and they took care of it and you could tell..

Thanks for sharing your story, COOLIS. Sorry you had to deal with that. That is one reason my Mom is not allowed to drive the 06 Tundra. On the one hand, how's she ever gonna learn without trying, right? On the other hand, I know she's gonna misjudged the tailgate and back up into something repeatedly.
I'll ask about painless dent repair, Lextrician. I looked more at the dent and it looks more like a crease than a dent. The other insurance did accept full liability so I just need to wait for the inspection next Tuesday.

I think the increased popularity of big SUVs and the notion that anyone can drive them as easily as small car is causing big problems out there. I find you have to be much more careful and attentive in an SUV and it's just plainly more difficult to drive one than a sedan.

Just got the repair estimate for the door dent...a whopping $156! The plan is to try Paintless Dent Repair first. After that, if the paint appears broken then they will need to sand the area and repaint, which will increase cost to insurance.
Since the other party's AAA accepted full liability, I am going through them directly and will utilize a rental after all. After AAA accepted full liability, I got the sense Farmers didn't really want to get involved on my end and, thus, I won't be eligible for $50/day reimbursement that I was going to use to get those security guards some gift cards. I still pan to reward those two security guards on my own dime. I could still insist to have Farmers represent me but I also don't want the claim to cause an increase in my premiums next renewal, even if I wasn't at fault. I posed the premium increase question to my Farmers adjuster and she couldn't give me a straight answer, so I don't want to chance it.
I did learn from the repair shop that the industry doesn't use Bondo anymore. If they have to fill anything then they use some liquid polymer that is more inert and not prone to moisture contamination like Bondo. Hopefully I don't need any kind of filler material. If all goes well then the repair can all be done in one day, barring any need to repaint. I just want to get my car back soon so I can embark on my first real DIY detail job after having researched the Car Care section of CL. Of course, I will possibly need to stay away from the driver's side rear door for a month if it needs to be repainted.

Lexus Dashcam
I agree. Having a dashcam in this situation would be nice. Buddy of mine saw this in Canada. Looks like a Lexus genuine dash camera or is it the dealer?
