How well is Air suspension lasting on 2008 LS 600hl?
Debating whether or not to keep my 2008 Lexus LS 600Hl nieman marcus edition.
Being Neiman Marcus Launch edition, these are the absolute first batch of cars; hence the oldest of the 600s.
The car rides like a dream - as if it were brand new (getting tires - rebalanced).
But it has been expensive to maintain - especially because of the dreaded $9000 Exhaust system replacement for hydro carbon valve issue. It has been done on my car already.
I am aware of the potential control arms issue. My 2010 460l awd had that issue and was repaired, at 85k miles.
The 600 has 115,000 miles and this car does not yet have control arm issues.. Mark Levinson amp has been replaced.
I am seeking opinions/advice of fellow forum members, whether to keep this car, or to sell it. I have had three of these identical cars. Sold two and this is the last one..
And if I were to sell it, what would be a fair number I can expect - to private owner.
I am tempted to keep it.. The paint looks as if it were show room new! My 2010 460 looks like an old car, compared to the 2008 600. I know that the paint was a $5500 option for the Nieman Marcus cars.. I am not
exaggerating, when I say that the paint actually looks showroom new!

LS460's air-shocks do not seem to be lasting as long as the 430's. Many 430 owners have made it to nearly 200k miles without having to replace. Most likely due to the larger rims on the 460 transferring more into the suspension. I would not expect to get more then 150k miles out of them but I'm sure it is possible depending on conditions. Rather then pay super inflated Lexus prices you can easily buy the part yourself and pay an independent shop for the installation or convert. Conversion is not particularly expensive.

I also have a 2008 LS600hL (but not the Neiman Marcus version). My car currently has 83K miles. My air ride shocks were all replaced between 45-55K miles (before I owned the car), and my front control arms were changed at 58K miles (just as I was buying the car). I've had no issues with the car in my 3 years of ownership, other than a bad Bank 2 O2 sensor (replaced under CPO warranty) and the rear transfer case fluid changed (under warranty) to get rid of the low-speed turning "growl" problem.
My car is only "worth" around $20-22K at this point, but it has much more value than that to me, since it rides and looks basically new, and there's nothing I could replace it for at that price that would come close to comparing. I have been intrigued by the new Genesis G90s, though, and might make the switch at some point when the lease prices get silly cheap (they are around $800 a month right now, zero down, 36 months).
