Default Set default music volume at start up?

Is there a way to set the default volume of the ML system when the car starts up? I can't find it in the vehicle customization settings. In both the 430 and 460 it appears that the volume stays at whatever was the previous level at the time the car was turned off. My concern is blowing a speaker if I was listening loudly at the time I turned off the car, and then getting a surprise ear blast the next time I start the car. I recall some systems automatically default to a quieter volume at startup. Can we set that in the 460?

My 08 stays at the last volume set when vehicle is switched off. There are no settings in my car that allows an alternative. If you're not blowing speakers when you switch it off theres no reason why it'd blow at start up, nor your ears...but it'll sure wake you up...

Thanks, roadfrog. At least when I'm listening loud I gradually get used to it. It seems more loud when all is silent and then suddenly blares. I'm glad there's nothing to worry about from a speaker damage standpoint. I still find it odd that the system doesn't normalize to a quieter volume. At least the 430 had the mute button that you could manually adjust and set to instantly lower the volume. Haven't looked yet to see if the 460 has the same feature.

I have had my volume at 50-55 many times and have forgotten to turn it down at shut off. Then after a 12 hour nightshift, I got into my car and BOOM!!. lol.

One thing to bear in mind is the 460 has different audio settings per each input, same with volume. So you need to tune the audio for each source.

I always turn it down before I turn off the car. Been doing it for years, just habit.

Holy smokes, 50+?!? I don't think I've ever cracked 30. I guess I really have nothing to worry about.

On a separate note, so glad to free up space previously occupied by the 6-inch high stack of owner's manuals. Thank goodness all manuals are available electronically on the Lexus Drivers site. Makes it easier to take it with me and read on my phone.

Nice, teedub. I see myself developing the same habit soon...now that I actually use the stereo (I always kept the radio off in the 430).
