Default This can be a boring car to own for a mechanic

About a year ago I bought my 07 with 84k. I got it up to snuff right away by doing the water pump and thermostat it didn't really need, spark plugs that were fine, control arms that were not causing any problems and replaced the brake pads for cleaner wearing ones. I also flushed and replaced the trans filter. I only drive 6k a year in this car so I'm probably going to just change the oil and rotate the tires once a year for the next 10 years. I might as well sell my garage lift.

True, even the 1500 miles a year I drive the ML requires work.

Nice garage!

And like you my car has been pretty "boring", and I like it that way. Purchased it three years ago, did the usual fluid changes, spark plugs, etc...stuff it really didn't need. Replaced six control arms, when it only needed two. And did a couple other small things. Unlike you I drive a lot...30,000 a year. So at your 6,000 miles a year clip, you'll be sad to know that even if you drove it five times more, you'd still have no problems.

Yeah these cars just aren't going to hold up, I hear you have to change the brake pads too.

Do you have to plan this in advance and pour the garage foundation extra deep? Or can any standard garage be retrofitted for this lift (aassuming you have the height). Thank you for giving me something else to dream for.

You just call a lift co. and they deliver and install it. It's about 4K. You need 12 ft ceilings and generous width for the stall. I used it a lot and it easily paid for itself the first couple years after I Ieft the dealership. Natural attrition took away my remaining customers and we didn't need the income anymore so it's just for my cars now. Not used much.

I'm shocked it doesn't cost more and that it only takes a phone call to one entity. I thought there would be permits involved (or maybe the lift company handles that) and that it would be closer to $15k-20k. Thank you for sharing, Kenny!
