Ever notice the RPM during these vibration bouts?

Next time it happens watch the tach and keep track of the RPMs, the level and if it's bouncing around.

Engine vibrations being transferred to the driver at idle is usually a sign the motor mounts are reaching the end of their life. But with motor mounts they don't normally only transfer when cold.

I don't mean to hijack the thread and I'm sorry I can't offer any advice.

I test drove a 2011 460L and thought it rode very smoothly, even on the 19-inch Eagle F1 tires. Since we're speaking of vibrations, on the highway I noticed the driver's seat seemed to vibrate and jiggle. Not enough to make noise but enough that I could feel my body bouncing up and down regularly. Is that also a sign of worn engine mounts (at 57K miles) or is it a product of the Eagle F1 tires? The rest of the car road very smoothly, it was just odd to feel jostling in the seat.

For some reason our cars, even my car which was brand new, would idle rough with low accessory load. It would idle below 500 RPM and you can feel it.

Of course, the simple solution for me was to just leave the AC on year around, which pushed idle RPM up.

I think the original poster might have a confluence of issues: low idle, which is causing those vibrations, and possibly poor engine mounts, which is enhancing those vibrations, unlike my car, which was brand new.

Of course, while I haven't checked it lately, the last time I checked, idle RPM stayed normal with no accessory load, I think it was 650 or higher. For some reason, when I first got it, it would idle strangely. I attributed it to the car learning my driving behavior.

Simple solution: turn on the AC and leave it in auto. That's what I do.
