AT Shifter Slide Cover Replacement - DIY
Has been a while since I last logged in and so thought I'd just start a thread on my recent DIY since there isn't any write up on this anywhere.
It started with this - a gapping hole in the Auto Tranny shifter cover.
Yes, I have a RHD 2007 LS460 and this DIY should work on a LHD as well.

Bought these, part nos 35975-50040 and 35976-50030, works on both RHD and LHD LS460.
You will need a 10mm socket wrench, a Phillips head screwdriver and probably an accessories pry tool for the job.

Now the job...
**Leave the car in Park and twist the shifter **** counter-clockwise.
Thread is pretty long and it took 12 - 13 rotations to get off the stem.
**Remove the trim piece on the arm rest, needs some finger effort but should come off fairly easily.
Use finger power and peel it skywards.
**Remove the both the left and right center console side panels.
Start by peeling off the edge closest to the footwell and work towards the center. Once this is off, hold the panel with both hands (top and bottom) and tug it forward. (towards the front of the car)

Good if you made it this far.
**Side panels off.
Locking tabs still look good.
**Once the panels are off, you can work on the 10mm screws.
10mm screws are located on the driver side. There are only 2 of them.
****Important! Once the screws are off, depress and hold the shift lock button and move shifter to Neutral position****
Shifter can be moved to other positions without starting the engine by depressing the shift lock button and moving the shifter out of Park
**Hold the left and right side of center console top cover with both hands and lift it skywards.
Top cover is off. It is held on by 6 locking tabs with 3 running down on each side. Tug it skywards to remove.

**Phillips screwdriver in action
Remove 2 screws to free up the shift position indicator
**The culprits
The long piece slide cover has cracked into 2 pieces. I removed them by sliding them downwards thru the opening. They are brittle to the touch, almost like potato chips.
**New parts
Make sure the rectangular one has the jagged side at the top. Push disc cover and lock it in place.
**Slide them up thru the opening at the bottom of the shift position indicator.
Easy does it, opening is tight. You don't want to break the locking tab.
**Once you have reached this point, you can rotate the disc and align the hole through which the shifter stem goes through.

**Install everything in reverse order.
Took me a leisurely 50mins to complete the job including cleaning up the console area.
**Final result
All good to go...satisfaction!

Fantastic guide thank you for all of the details! My LS460 just succumbed to this shifter nonsense and I appreciate the post that will help me. Love that the part numbers are provided so I just ordered them. Bravo!
