Power folding mirrors, dealer/Carista configurable?
Hey guys, quick question. I would prefer it if my power folding mirrors folded every time the engine was shut off vs when the doors are locked. Does anybody know if thats a dealer/Carista configurable option?
I have a small garage and would like the mirrors folded, but typically leave a car unlocked in the garage.

Yep, folds on lock. They do on our Kia Sedona too. I read somewhere it was adjustable...

Yep it took me a short time to get used to my mirrors not closing when I didn't lock the car. But I actually don't mind it because it's a good indicator. With my forgetfulness these days, if I walk off and forget if I locked my doors, I can look back to see if the mirror are folded. I like that!

As far as I know, it's not configurable.
I think Lexus' stand is that it's a safety issue. Folding the mirrors as soon as the engine is shut off prevents you from using the mirror to check for approaching cars from the rear when parking at the curb.
I personally would love to have a mix of the two. Leave the mirrors extended when I shut off the car, but fold them as soon as I open the driver's door. That way I'd have them folded when the car is in the garage without having to lock the doors or retract them manually.

As stated earlier, this is a safety issue with oncoming traffic (especially cyclists), from the rear.

they didn't care about safety on the LS430 apparently!

more and more cyclists on the road since the 90's. I know here, more emphasis on cycling to commute, building of "bicycle only lanes", etc.
There are recent reports that state cyclists being "doored" (that's the official term apparently), has soared in the last two years, increasing by 25% and will continue to climb.

Just FYI, I realized where I read that you can set the auto folding mirrors to lock or ignition on/off. On the 4GS forum. On the 14-15 GS you can adjust that option. Kinda blows the safety theory out of the window

Yeah, I don't think it's because of a safety concern - because some other Lexus models do have that as a configurable option - e.g. the RX, GS, etc.
Sometimes Lexus is just random with their support for settings.
