Hi, I never got a response back. Can anyone suggest a mechanic who can also check the electronics abd everything and does not cost a million?
Steve. I've had three front ends (upper and lower control arms) replaced on my 2007 LS460 in the last 5 years. Once from a private, reputable shop and twice from the local dealer who claimed to have a "real good tech". Twice with OEM parts, the other with aftermarket "dealer recommended" parts. Terrific results for about 6 months but at the most for one year. Then back to the loose, clanky noises you're all familiar with, eventually, coming from the front end of an LS 460 with over 120K miles. I'm closing in on $10K in total costs to save my ride. Don't ask me how I got to this point, but here I am. I bought the car off the boat on its way to USA from Shizuoka, Japan and have pampered it all the way to 160K miles as the Lexus service logs will confirm. No wrecks. But wow . . . what a disappointing end to a love affair with my LS. Some good designs are just that . . . a good design. But perhaps a design not repairable to a level even close to new. But certainly let me know of any long term repair solutions west of Denver, with a reasonable warranty on parts and labor, and I'm on my way.
Does the 13+ 460 have similar fate? Also afaik the control arms needs to be preloaded before you torque them. I would personally find a shop that warranties the work and I think the control arms going bad (given they are genuine) within an year is sign of bad labor.
Has any one tried Moogs before? I think it was here that Ive read before that Moog's lasted longer than the OEM's because of the problems with control arms with this generation
Great post with those two options, and loads of info on the follow up posts, yet, I still have questions, sorry.
My 2007 LS600 also has cracked bushings.
>I was quoted $5k USD from Lexus dealership claiming they had to remove whole front suspension and replace all 4 control arms on both sides = **** that.
>Went to my local mechanic, he wanted to cut the control arm to get it out (??) and then just replace the two arms with the bushings in them for $500-ish = we couldn't find just those single parts for sale.
>Went to a local Toyota mechanic, he wants to replace the 2 lower control arms on both sides with OEM parts for about $1k. Booked in for tomorrow to be done, but I am having doubts after reading this :/
