Default "Messages" - Phone Screen

I have been pouring thru the manual for my new-to-me 2014 LS460. I have achieved Bluetooth connectivity with my iPhone 5 for both voice phone and music. However, on the Phone setup screen, the "Messages" menu is missing, and the "Message" button is greyed out on the main Phone screen after the iPhone connects thru Bluetooth. Thus, no text message connectivity. Has anyone else experienced this and have a solution? Thanks in advance for your help.

Go to settings on your iPhone, click bluetooth, click on the little blue i next to the cars name and turn on "Show Notifications" then for kicks restart your phone and turn the car off. After the phone comes back on turn the car on and it should be set for good!
